About Sarah

salty sarah travels

Welcome! I’m Sarah, Barbados born, Florida raised, and a lover of travel adventures for as long as I can remember! Moving countries as a toddler required a passport before I could even speak in full sentences and I’ve never been without it since.

While most of my travel growing up focused on returning to Barbados to visit family, the serious adventures started after college. I visited Europe for two weeks immediately after graduation, and the following year I spent several months visiting New Zealand and Australia. And I just kept going from there, visiting 30+ countries over five continents and I’m still chasing that feeling of exploring somewhere new (to me).

I hope you will feel inspired to plan trips abroad, travel solo, and see your home state with an adventurous lens.

What I Write About

Salty Sarah began in 2023 and is your approachable guide to bucket list adventures, island escapes, and solo travel, written by someone who has actually been there. From the dramatic cliffs of the Faroe Islands to snorkeling in Fiji, from Florida‘s springs to the streets of Santorini, every guide here is built on my experience.

My love is island travel and destinations that feel a little off the beaten path, but I’m equally at home on a California road trip or navigating a solo city break. If it involves an adventure, I’m in.

Who I Write For

Whether you’re planning your first solo trip abroad, mapping out a bucket list destination you’ve dreamed about for years, or just hoping to see your own backyard through fresh eyes, this blog is for you.

I believe adventures don’t require a massive budget or a travel companion, but both are always welcome. Sometimes the best trip is a spontaneous day to a local state park. Sometimes it’s a flight to somewhere you’ve never heard of. Sometimes it’s to a jaw-dropping bucket list country you’ve been itching to see. The only requirement is saying yes (okay and saving enough money, let’s be a little responsible with the carpe diem).

What I Hope for You

I hope you feel empowered to plan your dream trips! To experience those bucket list adventures and start checking off some of the places you have have been dreaming of! Even if that means a solo trip or two.

It is also my hope that even if you can’t afford those bucket list destinations just yet, that you will look at your home state with an adventurous lens! The difference between experiences sometimes is simply the lens you are looking through. So go on local adventures, admire the flowers and views, try new restaurants and be a “tourist” for a day!

A Little More About Me

Some of my favorite places on this beautiful earth God created: Barbados, the Faroe Islands, Fiji, South Africa, Greece, Iceland, New Zealand, Australia and the San Blas Islands. Five continents down, two to go.. Antarctica and South America’s rich culture are calling my name. Of course, my current bucket list spans the world and includes: the Azores, catching the Northern or Southern Lights, snorkeling with orcas in Norway, Patagonia, Easter Island, Namibia, Western Australia, and an Antarctica cruise.

I’m also a Florida local who genuinely loves summer (yes, even the humidity) and outside of travel and church feels most alive and at peace with salt in my hair and sand in my toes.
