Explore Barbados | My Roots
I was born on this small, densely populated island sitting in the easternmost spot in the Caribbean. Though I only lived the first two years of my life in Barbados, it’s not just another place to me.
It’s the birthplace of my dad, his family, and generations past. It’s no surprise I love this island nation, but it’s not difficult to talk about a true paradise with friendly locals.
Since we lived in St. Philip, our family beach was The Crane and I have fond memories of return visits with my dad and swimming beyond the break. I enjoyed flying fish at my Grannie’s house for lunch or a sea bath afternoon when my frail grandmother treaded water far better than I could.
In recent years I’ve taken surf lessons and driven around Barbados on my own in more efforts to connect with my roots. My dad has passed on, but my love for his country and mine has only strengthened.
If you’re planning a trip, here are some of my favorite Barbados guides and experiences.

Explore Florida | My Home State
I’ve called the Sunshine State home since I was two years old (minus a few college years spent out of state) and have experienced its two basic seasons for as long as I can remember. From weekly summer beach days as a child to sweaty afternoon soccer practices as a teen, I’ve always been a summer girl.
That said, I think Florida’s “not summer” season is the best time to explore everything from big cities and charming small towns to natural springs and theme parks. I’m still discovering new corners of this state myself, but I’m always happy to share my local knowledge and favorite finds along the way.
Inspiration and honest takes from my own solo trips.
Fiji | Solo in the Yasawas
I wasn’t sure if solo travel in Fiji would feel awkward, but two weeks in the Yasawa Islands later, it became one of my favorite trips. I island hopped, snorkeled with tropical fish, dove with bull sharks, and never once felt out of place. Fiji has a way of making solo travelers feel completely at home, equal parts adventure and relaxation, with the kind of memories that quietly surprise you but keep you wanting more.
The Yasawa Islands of Fiji were one of my favorite trips — solo or otherwise! Click here to explore more Fiji travel tips, or grab my free Quick Guide to help plan your island-hopping adventure.
