Boat Tours Faroe Islands
The Faroe Islands are one of the most beautiful places I’ve been! I booked two boat tours before I left for my week long trip to these stunning islands! Each were to see a specific area and both offered a beautiful vantage point of the incredible scenery!
I’ll explain more about the two tours I did and offer some additional suggestions. If you’re visiting islands, isn’t getting on a boat a must?

Boat Tours in the Faroe Islands
Drangarnir
I saw so many photos of the Faroe Islands so some of the scenery had reached celebrity status in my book. Drangarnir was one icon I planned to see! Originally I was looking at a hike to see this sea stack, but the hike (at least at the time of my trip) required a guide because it was on private land. It also seemed like it would take a significant amount of time.
Eventually, I came across a boat tour and decided THIS was the way to see Drangarnir. The boat tour was great! The sea was relatively calm on the day we went out so we actually got to go through Drangarnir.
The tour also included a stop at two waterfalls, including Múlafossur Waterfall! Another icon I was planning to see. We also saw this waterfall from it’s viewpoint on land which is not a far drive from where the boat tour starts and ends.
The tour I did was the Drangarnir Sea Stacks Boat Tour, however, if that boat doesn’t look appealing to you, book the Exclusive 1,5 Hour Drangarnir Boat Tour instead. I enjoyed the boat tour I did and I enjoyed being in a smaller boat. For our other tour, we were on a boat similar to the other tour mentioned here, but for this one we loved the adventurous feeling of the smaller boat.
The scenery of the Faroe Islands is so stunning! From every angle on land or sea! And yes, I do recommend seeing it from both!

Vestmanna Sea Cliffs
The other boat tour I pre-booked was to see the Vestmanna Cliffs! We drove to the Vestmanna Tourist Center. There is a restaurant here which my friend and I ate at a different day. And there is a wax museum you can walk through to learn of the Faroese history. We did do the museum after the boat tour! It’s not so good you should absolutely do it, but if you have time it’s interesting.
The cliffs and scenery felt otherworldly and somewhat Jurassic Park like. I almost expected to spot a dinosaur or a fairy!
The Vestmanna Boat tour was beautiful! The cliffs and scenery felt otherworldly and somewhat Jurassic Park like. I almost expected to spot a dinosaur or a fairy! This boat was a double decker, but we got on last and couldn’t sit at the top. However, we had the whole bottom deck to ourselves, so there’s that. When we reached one area, they gave us hard hats in case of falling debris as we entered a cave!
Again, the Faroe Islands continuously over delivered when it came to natural beauty. You can book just the Vestmanna Sea Cliffs Boat Tour online or in person. However, if you don’t rent a car, you can book a tour that includes multiple stops including the Vestmanna Cliffs boat tour!

Boat Tours from Tórshavn
Enjoy sightseeing tours from Tórshavn, the captial of the Faroe Islands. While I didn’t do any boat tours from Tórshavn, I can’t imagine anything being a let down in the Faroe Islands. Since most hotels are in Tórshavn, this is an easy outing! There is even one offered on an iconic sailing ship!
Tips for Boat Tours in the Faroe Islands
Book at the Beginning of Your Trip
The weather in the Faroe Islands is unpredictable! If there is a tour you really want to do, book it towards the beginning of your trip. This way if the weather cancels your tour, you have some time to reschedule it.
I was grateful my tours didn’t have to be rescheduled. However, my week long trip in the Faroe Islands the end of September had two “winter storms” that prevented me from doing anything! And ultimately I missed the Kallur Lighthouse hike that I really wanted to do. Overall, I had a loose plan but the weather really kept me on my toes and had me pivoting more than I expected.
So prioritize any tours you really want to do towards the beginning of the trip!
Be Prepared for Any Weather
This is good advice for the Faroe Islands in general, but be prepared for wind and rain. On a boat, wind should be expected, but in the Faroe Islands it could start raining at any minute. So I recommend layers and waterproof outerwear.
