Where to Stay in Florida for a Solo Beach Vacation

Wondering where to stay in Florida for a solo beach vacation? I live in central Florida, love the beach and have traveled around the state and abroad solo.

I offer options based on specific beaches or areas as well as options based on price range. If you’ve already narrowed down your preferences, you can use the shortcuts below.

Some of the best Florida beaches for solo travelers are listed below, though there are many more to choose from. Florida has miles and miles of coastline, so I hope this helps you figure out where to stay in Florida for a solo beach vacation!

I also want to mention that I provide estimates of hotel prices to make it easier, but please remember prices are subject to change! High season will deliver much higher prices than low season, but I tried to provide an average starting point.

30A

If you haven’t heard of 30A, let me offer some insight. It’s a road in the Panama City Beach area that includes multiple beach towns with each having its own personality.

Rosemary Beach offers colonial vibes and Alys Beach gives me Mediterranean meets Beverly Hills. Seaside has an adorable town square right on the beach and while there are more beach towns along 30A, these are my standouts. You’ll have to explore and decide which is your favorite!

When it comes to where to stay in Florida for a solo beach vacation, this area is both charming and safe making it a great option! The beach is also beautiful, so you can’t go wrong!

Where to Stay

Vacation Rentals

There are plenty of vacation rentals along 30A, and when I stayed on 30A I found VRBO had way more options than Airbnb. While more have popped up on Airbnb since my visit, it’s worth checking both if you’re looking for a home or condo.

Hotels

I’m choosing hotels more and more often and I think they have more perks especially when traveling solo. I’ll highlight some hotel options along 30a.

Rosemary Beach

The Pearl Hotel is located in the colonial style town of Rosemary Beach. This 4 Star hotel is praised for it’s service. It sits close to the beach, but not on it as nothing in Rosemary is truly on the beach. The pool is private and looks so charming.

Boutique | Rosemary Beach, FL | $500+ | The Pearl Hotel

Seaside

The WaterColor Inn and Resort is located in Seaside, Florida and guests rave about this 4 Star hotel’s service! It’s right on the beach and also offers a private pool. While the price is higher than a home rental, the reviewers certainly think the excellent and friendly service is worth the price!

Beachside | Seaside, FL | $450 | WaterColor Inn and Resort

Santa Rosa Beach

This budget option sits on 30A, but on a portion of the road that is further up from the beach. However, it’s within walking distance of a public beach entrance and there are some walking trails nearby as well. Despite the lower price, reviewers appreciate the service!

Budget | $120+ | The Lodge 30A

sunset at Rosemary BeachClearwater Beach

Clearwater Beach is a favorite of a lot of people! I have friends who will drive across the state to enjoy a weekend here. The water is usually clear and calm, which is perfect if don’t like waves. With Tampa being close by, there’s plenty to do if there’s a rainy day.

In Clearwater Beach, you’re also within driving distance of Florida springs! Most notably, you can swim with manatees at Crystal River or float downstream at Rainbow Springs!

Where to Stay

Vacation Rentals

Clearwater Beach is full of accommodation options from hotels to vacation rentals! When it comes to a getaway, I’d prefer a hotel especially as a solo traveler, but there are good options for under $200 if you want a kitchen or a homey vibe.

Hotels

When it comes to where to stay in Florida for a solo beach vacation, Clearwater Beach is a popular choice! If you go during the off-season, you can find better deals with less crowds!

Sandpearl Resort

Sandpearl Resort is located on Clearwater Beach in the middle of the island, making it a great vacation spot! With luxury amenities and steps from the beach, this is a perfect little luxury getaway.

Luxury | $800+ | Sandpearl Resort

Shephard’s Beach Resort offers a beautiful bay view, sitting on the side of the island overlooking both the bay and Sand Key Park on the neighboring island. Guests love the resort’s laid-back vibe, with easy access to the beach, pools, and local dining.

Bay View | $300+ | Shephard’s Beach Resort

For those on a budget but still wanting to be close to the action, Pier House 60 Clearwater Beach Marina Hotel is a great option. Located right by the marina and a short walk to Clearwater Beach, this hotel offers simple, comfortable accommodations with easy access to local attractions.

Budget | $200+ | Pier House 60 Clearwater Beach Marina Hotel

jet ski MiamiMiami Beach

Miami Beach attracts people from all over the world, and if you are a solo traveler who wants a lively scene then this is the place for you. There’s good restaurants, a party scene and shopping, so you have plenty to do when you’re not lounging on the beach.

Enjoy a Little Havana Food and Walking Tour or take a day trip to go snorkeling in Key Largo!

Where to Stay

Vacation Rentals

Miami Beach doesn’t have a shortage of accommodations at varying price points, whether you’re looking for hotels or vacation rentals. If you plan to stay for an extended period of time, having a kitchen could be useful. Options on VRBO include everything from budget to luxury, so you can find a stay in your price range.

Hotels

When I’m on vacation, I don’t cook even when it’s an option, so hotels tend to be my preference these days. Miami Beach is full of options, so you can find a top luxury experience or an affordable option that frees your money for world class dining or local fun.

1 Hotel South Beach

If you’re looking for a luxury experience in Miami, take a look at 1 Hotel South Beach. This 5-star hotel is all about sustainability and style, with stunning rooms, an eco-friendly vibe, and beautiful ocean views. From its rooftop pool overlooking the beautiful South Beach to its world-class dining options, this hotel offers a high-end experience.

Luxury 5 Star | $800+ | 1 Hotel South Beach

The Standard Spa

For a more relaxed, yet still upscale vibe, consider The Standard Spa in Miami Beach. Known for its tranquil atmosphere, incredible spa services, and beautiful poolside lounging areas, this hotel is ideal for those looking to unwind and recharge.

Relaxing | $500+ | The Standard Spa, Miami Beach

MB Hotel

If you’re looking for a budget-friendly beachside stay, MB Hotel offers a solid, affordable option without sacrificing comfort. Located just a short walk from Miami Beach, this hotel is simple and comfortable, with everything you need for a pleasant stay.

Crocodile warning at the Florida Keys

Florida Keys

The Florida Keys are not so much a beach vacation, but it does offer tropical vibes. It’s more of a boating destination, but there are some small beaches sprinkled throughout.

If you want walkability or a party scene, Key West is where you should focus. However, the Keys are quite spread out. From Key Largo to Key West it will take just over two hours to drive!

Where to Stay

Vacation Rentals

There are plenty of vacation rentals throughout the Keys, but I’ll highlight a unique one!

The Crystalmarine Suite – Rustic Luxury on the Sea is a houseboat ten minutes offshore. It’s a small space with floor to ceiling windows offering beautiful views of the ocean. This might excite some solo travelers and horrify others, but it’s too unique not to mention.

If you want to stay here, you will need to organize transportation or have your own boat. The listing offers several options, to make it easy. There are other requirements as well, so be sure to read through the details.

I don’t see available dates for the summer months. I’m not sure if the owners just haven’t opened those dates or if it’s not just an option over the hotter months.

On the Ocean | $500+ | The Crystalmarine Suite – Rustic Luxury on the Sea

Hotels

Where to stay in Florida for a solo beach vacation can be a little more interesting in the Florida Keys. While there are beaches, it’s not like the rest of the state which has miles and miles of beaches. Here, they are fewer and overall it’s more of a boating destination, but I’ll highlight a couple with beaches to offer!

Tranquility Bay Beachfront Resort

For a true beachfront escape, Tranquility Bay Beachfront Resort offers stunning views and spacious accommodations. This resort is located right on the beach, making it the perfect place for those who want to spend their days soaking up the sun and enjoying water activities. It’s in the middle of the Keys in Marathon and about an hour drive from Key West.

Beachfront | $500+ | Tranquility Bay Beachfront Resort

Southernmost Beach Resort

This hotel is in a prime location on the southernmost point of the island. You have a beach and an easy walk to Key West action since it’s at the end of Duval Street. The resort has a relaxed, friendly vibe and you’ll find plenty of opportunities for relaxing, reading, or enjoying the sunset. Plus, you can easily join in the local activities, whether it’s a bike tour or a sunset sail.

Key West | $400+ | Southernmost Beach Resort

Where to Stay in Florida for a Solo Beach Vacation - New Smyrna beach, FloridaEast Central Florida

A couple things worth noting. This area of Florida is better for budget minded solo travelers. It’s not the place to come for true luxury.

This coast was hit hard by hurricanes but in most cases it’s recovered. While the beach walkways have been rebuilt and fresh coats of paint have made the area look better, some hotels and condos may still be in process of repairs.

In general, I recommend reading the latest reviews of any hotel, but especially any areas in Florida that have been hit by storms more recently.

However, this is one of the best areas to base yourself, in my opinion, for a lot of Florida experiences! Take a day trip to theme parks, explore the best paddle board spots in Florida like Silver Springs, watch a rocket launch at Cape Canaveral, or enjoy the historic town of St. Augustine!

Where to Stay

Vacation Rentals

Consider checking VRBO for any home or condo rentals if that’s of interest to you. When I’m traveling solo, I usually prefer hotels, but when it comes to the beach, there are great home rental options in east Central Florida! It’s worth noting, you’ll have more options if you choose weekly dates as most home rentals in this area require it.

Hotels

This part of Florida is quite budget friendly overall. While there’s not much in the way of true luxury, there are plenty of mid-range and budget options. Here are some hotel examples if a home rental isn’t for you.

The Resort on Cocoa Beach

Located just steps from Cocoa Beach, The Resort on Cocoa Beach is a fantastic spot for those looking to enjoy a fun, relaxed beach vacation. With spacious rooms offering full kitchens, it’s perfect for longer stays or if you prefer a bit more flexibility.

Cocoa Beach | $250+ | The Resort on Cocoa Beach

Sea Club IV

For a more budget-friendly beach stay, Sea Club IV in Daytona Beach Shores offers affordable accommodations without sacrificing convenience. Located right on the beach, the hotel offers a quiet, low-key atmosphere, ideal for solo travelers looking to relax by the water.

Daytona Beach Shores is a quieter area to Daytona Beach, which I’d prefer. One of my favorite breakfast and lunch spots is Casualbird, which is about a 15 minute walk. Jimmy Hulas is a local chain just down the road from Casualbird. I love their tacos and my Australian nephew approved of their burgers!

Daytona Beach Shores | $150+ | Sea Club IV

Black Dolphin Inn

If you’re looking for a quieter, more intimate stay that’s still close to the action, Black Dolphin Inn is a beautiful, charming option located along the Intracoastal Waterway in New Smyrna Beach. Though it’s not on the beach, the inn offers a peaceful, boutique experience with stylish rooms, and cozy common areas.

The beach is not a far drive, and you have good restaurants on Canal Street or Flagler Avenue. If I’m in this area and want acai, I hit up Mason Bar. For a good bakery, Mon Delice has been around for ages and it’s still good. The Garlic is a quirky, fun spot, but it’s been a while since I’ve been so I can’t comment on the food.

New Smyrna Intracoastal (not beach) | $350+ | Black Dolphin Inn

Flagler Beach FloridaFlagler Beach

This just might be my top among Florida beaches for solo travelers. I just love the small, beach town vibes! Though it is definitely getting more crowded as it’s not flying under the radar as much anymore.

The restaurant scene has improved as well, so you can experience good food from a hole in the wall, or enjoy a more upscale experience. With no obnoxious condos, I love the charm of this place!

It’s definitely got the small town vibe, but it’s on the beach. It’s also close enough to St. Augustine or Daytona for fun day trips if you want! There won’t be any luxury options, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that changes sooner than later.

Overall, it offers one of the least crowded beaches in Florida! And if where you’re staying is a little too crowded, a quick drive up or down the coast will give you a quieter spot.

Where to Stay

I drove A1A a few weeks ago and noticed a decent amount of construction. Some of it is related to the erosion and some are new builds. It’s worth mentioning as you might want to check that there is beach access wherever you decide to stay.

Vacation Rentals

Flagler Beach definitely offers vacation rentals! Since there are no large buildings, there are plenty of rental homes in the area. There aren’t beach houses or hotels directly on the beach in this area. Between the house and the beach is A1A, so you will have to walk across a small, two lane road to get to the beach.

Hotels

Compass by Margaritaville is being built right now in the main square of Downtown Flagler Beach. It’s expected to open mid 2025. While I’m sad they gave up some of their square to a hotel, I’m glad to see they kept it to only a couple stories so it’s not a massive build.

*Driving times are to the downtown Flagler Beach Area.

Island Cottage Inn

Island Cottage Inn offers a cozy and charming escape with easy access to the sand. It sits directly across the street from the beach with views of the ocean and has a pool if you prefer. It’s a charming option for solo travelers who want to enjoy the peacefulness of Flagler Beach.

5 Minutes | $180+ | Island Cottage Inn

A1A Ocean Club

A1A Ocean Club is a short walk away from downtown Flagler Beach and right across from the beach! There is no pool, but the rooms are clean. Based on reviews, it sounds like checkin is smooth, but there isn’t a staff around. If you are happy to stay and be unbothered, this is a great option with a stellar location!

13 Minute Walk | $170+ | A1A Ocean Club

Si Como No Inn

Colorful, quirky, and loved by guests, Si Como No Inn is an accommodation definitely worth considering. Just a short drive north of Flagler Beach, guests have repeatedly called it a hidden gem! It also has access to the intracoastal with kayaks and paddle boards to rent. This is a perfect quirky, old Florida getaway!

5 Minutes | $170+ | Si Como No Inn

sunrise St. Augustine beachSt. Augustine

The oldest city (or continuously occupied settlement) in the United States is St. Augustine! Here you will find history, great restaurants, and the beach! When considering where to stay in Florida for a solo beach vacation, this can be a great option!

Where to Stay

When it comes to St. Augustine, staying on the beach or the in historic district are both wins! However, they are separated by the intracoastal, so it’s better to pick one. Though there is a cute motel (mentioned below) that has made USA Today’s top ten list that sits between the two locations.

Vacation Rentals

There are plenty of vacation rentals in St. Augustine Beach. We had a family reunion there and we were able to stay on the beach. However, one thing worth noting is that while we were on the beach, it was still a bit of hike to the beach.

In addition, the house we stayed at had their walkway washed out from a storm, so we were allowed to use the neighbors but still had to climb the sand dune partially. Even though Flagler Beach options are across the street, beach access would be easier there than here!

If your heart is set on a vacation home, consider Vilano Beach as well. It’s quieter, but still close to St. Augustine. Some of the beachside homes there have easier access to the beach.

Hotels

I’m still a fan of hotels, especially when traveling solo. There are endless options in St. Augustine, but here are few to consider! One is beachside, one is close to the historic town and one is in between the two!

The Local

For those looking for an affordable, boutique-style stay in St. Augustine, The Local is a charming option that combines comfort and a great location. This motel made it on the top ten list of motels in the entire country by USA Today. It’s budget friendly, has great reviews and good central location between the beach and historic town.

Embassy Suites by Hilton

If you’re looking to enjoy the beach with a little more luxury, Embassy Suites by Hilton St. Augustine Beach Oceanfront Resort is a great choice. Located right on St. Augustine Beach, this oceanfront resort offers spacious suites and a lovely pool with ocean views. It sits next to Anastasia State Park, so you have more nature on one side adding to the serenity.

St. Francis Inn

By the historic part of town, St. Francis Inn Bed and Breakfast offers a cozy, charming stay right in the heart of St. Augustine. This beautifully restored inn is one of the city’s oldest bed and breakfasts, offering a unique and personalized experience for solo travelers. Guests rave about the delicious breakfast and the friendly service, giving it 4.9 Stars with over 1,200 reviews!

North Atlantic Area

Amelia Island is a popular getaway, but if you’re on a budget consider Jacksonville Beach. It’s still close enough to explore Amelia Island, but can be easier on your wallet. If you have the funds and want a quieter setting that isn’t Amelia Island, consider Ponte Vedra Beach.

Where to Stay

Vacation Rentals

If you prefer rental homes, there will be plenty of options to choose from. Whether on the beach or a short walk, there are some cute ones to consider!

Hotels

Jacksonville Beach will have more budget friendly options, but Amelia Island is charming and quieter!

The Ritz-Carlton

The Ritz-Carlton is synonymous with luxury and the one on Amelia Island is no exception. Located on a pristine stretch of Amelia Island’s beach, this resort is the epitome of elegance and relaxation. Solo travelers can indulge in fine dining, unwind at the spa, or enjoy the beach right outside their door.

Budget Hotels

Each traveler’s interpretation of “budget” varies, but for this research, we’re targeting accommodations priced under $200 per night. I considered total costs and focused on hotels on the beach.

It’s worth mentioning again that prices fluctuate depending on the season and whether it’s a weekday or weekend. Nevertheless, these budget-friendly hotels boast good reviews and offer exceptional value for your stay.

Hutchinson Island Hotel

Escape to the tranquility of Hutchinson Island Hotel in Fort Pierce, where guests can enjoy a peaceful retreat surrounded by natural beauty. This hotel is not what I would consider beach front but it is waterfront. It’s situated more on the Intracoastal than the beach, but the views are beautiful and it’s a 12 minute walk to Jetty Park.
