Travel in Canada FAQs

When is the best time to visit Canada?
It depends on what you’re looking for! Summer (June–August) is ideal for hiking, road trips, and exploring national parks like Banff. Winter (December–February) transforms cities like Quebec City and Montreal into festive wonderlands with Christmas markets and snowy charm.
Do I need a visa to visit Canada?
U.S. citizens don’t need a visa for short visits but do need a valid passport. Travelers from other countries should check entry requirements before booking.
What’s the best way to get around?
For exploring regions like Banff or Jasper, renting a car gives you the most flexibility. In cities like Montreal and Toronto, public transportation, uber and walking work great.
Is Canada expensive to travel in?
It can be, especially in major cities or popular tourist areas. However, the exchange rate plays a role in making it more affordable for Americans and there are plenty of ways to save — book early, travel in shoulder seasons (spring or fall), and enjoy free outdoor attractions like lakes, hikes, and city parks.
Do I need to worry about the cold?
If you’re visiting in winter, yes — pack layers, warm boots, and a waterproof jacket. The snowy landscapes are stunning but temperatures can drop quickly, especially in mountain areas.
