Travel in the United States FAQs

What’s the best time to visit the USA?
Anytime! The U.S. is large and offers a variety of climates. Spring and fall are generally the most pleasant across most regions, with fewer crowds and mild weather. Florida and other southern states are great in winter, while summer is ideal for national parks, mountain getaways, and coastal trips.
Do I need a car to travel around the USA?
In most places, yes—especially outside of big cities. Public transportation is limited in many regions, so renting a car gives you the most flexibility to explore small towns, scenic drives, and natural areas.
What are some must-see experiences in the USA?
Road trips, national parks, historic cities, and beach escapes top the list. Some favorites include driving along the Pacific Coast Highway, exploring Florida’s springs, hiking in the Rockies, or visiting iconic spots like New York City or the Grand Canyon.
Is tipping expected in the USA?
Yes—tipping is a standard part of American culture (and yes, most of us also think it’s out of control). Expect to tip around 18–20% at restaurants, a few dollars per day for hotel housekeeping, and 10–15% for taxi drivers or tour guides.
Places you order at the counter, like a coffee shop, will ask for a tip but this is not seen as compulsory and I think more people are reconsidering this tip.
