STIR Mushroom Coffee Review: My Honest Take After Trying 3 Brands

This STIR Mushroom Coffee review is coming from someone who had to give up her morning coffee, but still wanted the enjoyable AM mug experience. I’m someone who doesn’t enjoy eating mushrooms, but I do want to make changes that positively impact my health.

STIR Mushroom Coffee exceeded my low expectations after being disappointed by two other top brands. It doesn’t taste like coffee (and yes, I do miss it), but it does give me a drink I can enjoy every morning that also offers health benefits!

If you’re looking for a mushroom coffee that doesn’t taste like mushrooms, but still offers the benefits, this STIR Mushroom Coffee review may help you decide if it’s worth trying.

Why I Tried STIR Mushroom Coffee

I have loved coffee since one fateful day in college when I didn’t get enough sleep and decided to try a mocha at Starbucks. Drinking chocolate milk as a kid, the mocha latte seemed like a good choice for me and I was right! It served its purpose of helping me to become more alert while tasting good.

It didn’t take long to become a true coffee drinker and over the years my coffee became less and less sweet. A plain latte with regular milk or a cup of drip coffee with some cream was my go-to for coffee shops or morning cups.

Health Turns

In recent years, my hormones took a turn. If you’re a man reading this, enjoy your 24 hour cycle for life, because it’s the wild, wild west over here! After joining Geviti, I was advised to remove gluten from my diet as an experiment to see if it would help.

I had a family trip with my siblings planned for Banff, so I didn’t cut gluten right away. In Banff, I struggled on the Sulphur Mountain and the Lake Agnes Teahouse hikes. When I say struggle, I mean STRUGGLED!

I grew up playing soccer, so when it came to sporty or athletic things I wasn’t used to being the sister lagging behind. So after eating a lot of humble pie in Banff, I was motivated when I returned home.

Discovering (okay, admitting) Coffee Bothered Me

I cut out gluten, which wasn’t a significant thing in my diet anyway. It was a piece of toast in the morning for my routine eating. Well once I cut it out, I noticed how brutal coffee was on my gut. If I was being honest with myself, I would have noticed years prior! I just didn’t want to give up my coffee!

That morning cup of coffee is a ritual. It’s not just caffeine, it’s my morning drink as I read my Bible. A comforting sip as I start my day, with a smell I still love! That coffee aroma is so wonderful, right?!

While I didn’t want to give it up, I was desperate and motivated enough so I cut it out. I wish I could say it was easy, but I was leveled for five days. On the couch, my nervous system on fire (HRV tanked) and I had basically NO energy!

After surviving cutting the coffee, there was no going back! Yet I still wanted that morning cup, that ritual. I bought some green tea, but it just didn’t hold the same warmth and comfort. Mushroom coffee was suggested by a friend, so I tried hers, bought another popular brand from Target, and was overall not excited about it or ready to make it a morning routine.

First Impressions of STIR Mushroom Coffee

Around this mushroom coffee experiment time, I walked into my local health food store and there stood a man behind a table of STIR Mushroom Coffee. He was offering samples of this mushroom coffee, so I gladly stopped to try it.

He explained how it not only had mushrooms, but also had MCT oil, cacao powder, Madagascar vanilla, coconut milk powder, and even a little actual coffee. Skeptical after being unimpressed with other mushroom coffee, I took a taste.

This was the best tasting mushroom coffee to me! So bought a package to give it a real test. That morning coffee vibes kind of test. And spoiler, months later and many, many more purchases later, I can confirm it passed!

What STIR Mushroom Coffee Actually Tastes Like

It’s worth noting I don’t like eating mushrooms, and other mushroom coffees were too earthy for me. STIR Mushroom Coffee tastes delicious! I notice the hints of coconut and cacao (flavors I both love), which drown out the earthy tones from the mushrooms.

It doesn’t taste like coffee, but I actually enjoy it! And since the caffeine is minimal, I knew it would be okay for me to drink on a regular basis. I add milk or cream like I would to coffee and it gives me that morning coffee comfort.

I want the benefits of the mushrooms, but I don’t want the taste. Of course, if you love the taste, you may end up preferring other brands. However, this is the brand I keep coming back to and while I still love coffee, I’ve officially replaced a conventional cup with STIR Mushroom Coffee!

How I Drink STIR Mushroom Coffee

Enjoying STIR Mushroom Coffee in the morning couldn’t be easier! Long gone are the days of a coffee maker taking up counter space. I’ve now got a more demure electric kettle where the only step is adding water.

Once the kettle has the water and it’s starting to heat up, I add a tablespoon of the STIR Mushroom Coffee to my favorite mug. I grab a small spoon from the drawer and once the water is ready, I pour it into the mug.

After a little stir of STIR, I add some milk. And that’s it! I’m ready to enjoy my morning cup.

STIR vs. Other Mushroom Coffees I’ve Tried

Now you may be wondering what other mushroom coffees I tried. My friend had Ryze and graciously let me try it one day. My instant reaction was “this is not for me.” It was way too earthy and mushroom like. If you want that, then it’s a great one to try!

Since I decided Ryze wasn’t for me, I bought MUD/WTR from Target. Thankfully, I was able to purchase a smaller amount, so it was enough to give it a real try but not a full commitment. As with Ryze, MUD/WTR wasn’t great.

I was committed to the idea that mushrooms offer many health benefits and since I don’t like eating them, I’ll need to develop a taste for mushroom coffee.

Serendipitously, STIR Mushroom Coffee saved me from suffering through the experience, while offering the same benefits and even more with the MCT oil, cacao, and other carefully selected ingredients.

Who STIR Mushroom Coffee Is Actually For

STIR Mushroom Coffee is for anyone who wants the benefits of mushroom coffee without the earthy drink experience. While it doesn’t taste like coffee, it’s delicious and the earthiness is toned down nicely with the other ingredients that also offer health benefits.

Of course, if you like the earthy notes from mushrooms or you hate coconut flavor, this may not be your preference.

  • Coconut and cacao notes mask the earthy mushroom flavor
  • Minimal caffeine, so it fits into a daily routine more easily than regular coffee
  • Extremely simple to make with a kettle, one tablespoon, stir, add milk (optional)
  • Thoughtfully formulated (MCT oil, cacao powder, Madagascar vanilla, coconut milk powder offer more health benefits with the mushrooms)
  • Became a full replacement for conventional coffee, not just an occasional swap

Cons:

  • Doesn’t actually taste like coffee (but that is the case with all mushroom coffees I tried)
  • Not a fit for people who specifically like the earthy mushroom taste (Ryze fans, for example)
  • Not a fit for people who dislike coconut or cacao flavor

Is STIR Mushroom Coffee Worth It? Final Thoughts

I absolutely think STIR Mushroom Coffee is worth it and the fact that I’ve continued buying it over and over again is proof. Of course, if you want the earthy taste or dislike coconut flavor (I do have friends like this), then STIR may not be for you.

If you can find a local seller, they might offer the sample sizes. Amazon only has the 30 servings package, but hopefully this STIR Mushroom Coffee review gave you enough feedback to decide if it’s worth a real try if Amazon is your only option.

That coconut and cacao flavor shine through for me and I love it! However, they don’t overpower in my opinion. Mushroom coffee is still an acquired taste, so I do recommend trying a few different brands to find the one you like best.

I’m so glad I found STIR Mushroom Coffee because I’m not sure I’d still be a mushroom coffee drinker if I had to rely on the other brands.
