This article is in list format to make it easy to skim, but if you’re looking for more of a travel guide, check out What to Do in Mykonos in 3 Days: The Ultimate Travel Guide.

Paralia Platis Gialos Beach

1 | Relax on Mykonos’ Stunning Beaches

Mykonos has plenty of beaches perfect for relaxing. My friend and I did book one night at Acrogiali Beach Hotel and I think it’s the best beach (Paralia Platis Gialos) we saw while exploring the island!

My opinion aside, other popular beaches that are worth considering include Kalafati Beach, the famous Paradise Beach, Super Paradise Beach, Agios Sostis Beach, and Kapari Beach. Your personal preferences and the time of year you are in Mykonos will influence which beach is your favorite. The below is by no means an exhaustive list, but it is a great place to start!

2 | Watch the Sunset at Armenistis Lighthouse

I visited the Armenistis Lighthouse while in Mykonos, but it wasn’t for sunset. However, I do think that would be the best time to visit and arguably the best sunset on the island. The area offers beautiful views, and a sunset would be magical.

Other Options for Sunset

If you want to catch the sunset but can’t make it to the lighthouse, there are options in or close to Mykonos Town. My friend and I had dinner at Katerina’s Restaurant & Cocktail Bar, but you’ll want to make a reservation to sit on the small patio for the sunset view.

Church of Panagia Paraportiani is a popular spot to catch the sunset or head to Little Venice. One place in Little Venice I bookmarked for the sunset (but never visited) is Semeli Bar, Little Venice.

Besides Katerina’s Restaurant, my friend and I caught another sunset near where we stayed. Hiking up that hill from Mykonos Town felt like a workout for the days we stayed there, but this sunset ended up being the best sunset we had in Mykonos! If nothing else, head for high ground to catch a Mykonos sunset.

3 | Explore Ano Mera Village

My visit to Mykonos was end of September, because I like to avoid the crowds and high season prices. When my friend and I arrived to Ano Mera Village, there was hardly anyone around. Despite the lack of people, the area is super charming!

Head there around lunch, even in the shoulder season, and there’s likely more people around!

organic farm Mykonos

4 | Visit an Organic Farm

When consideirng what things to do in Mykonos, this should be a top option! My friend and I loved our stop at this cute, organic farm called Mykonos Vioma Organic Farm!

My friend enjoyed her wine and I had the BEST halva! They have a restaurant and we also enjoyed a quick tour of their farm. The stop doesn’t have to be long, but I loved it and recommend it. While Mykonos is known for parties, it’s nice to see another side of this Greek island.

5 | Wander the Iconic Streets of Mykonos Town

When considering things to do in Mykonos, this is a top and popular option! After all, the whitewashed walls and stone streets are legendary in Santorini and Mykonos. After spending four days in Santorini, I can confirm the flatter Mykonos is easier to navigate but no less charming.

Wander into shops, enjoy a bite to eat, or just get lost in the winding streets of Mykonos’ Old Town.

windmills Mykonos

6 | See the Famous Windmills of Mykonos

The windmills of Mykonos are famous and they are easy to add to your list of things to do in Mykonos if you are spending time in town. While they are just a look and see stop, they are worth it if you’re in the area!

So add a stop at the Windmills of Mykonos as you explore the town! And of course, take some photos of these charming and iconic windmills.

7 | Stroll Along Little Venice

Little Venice in Mykonos is a charming area right on the water! It’s lined with restaurants and shops and the boats in the bay add to the charm of this area. While it can get busy, it’s definitely a top choice for things to do in Mykonos.

Since it’s right by Mykonos town, you can simply add it to your exploration of this area and hit Mykonos town, the windmills and Little Venice on the same day. Of course, it’s equally charming at night, so if you’re looking for a good dinner area, this is the spot!

Delos Island Greece

8 | Take a Boat Trip to Delos & Rhenia

This is one of my favorite day trips! It started with a visit to Rhenia island. The water is the most breathtaking aqua I’ve ever seen! We spent some time anchored here, and if you are good with the water temperature, you could potentially swim and even head to shore for a bit.

When deciding what to do in Mykonos for 3 days, I’m so glad we chose this day tour! Delos was so interesting! It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was considered the mythical birthplace of Apollo and Artemis, which made it a major religious center. It became a thriving commercial hub around 7BC!

We did have to pay an entrance fee upon arrival, but were given a tour of the island and told about its significance. We then had time to walk around and explore on our own.

If you enjoy beautiful water and historical sites, this will hit the mark! Even though I didn’t swim, I loved the stop at Rhenia and Delos was super interesting!

9 | Experience Mykonos’ Beach Clubs & Nightlife

When it comes to things to do in Mykonos, this one doesn’t make my list, but this island is known for it, so it has to be mentioned! While I’m not into partying, there are plenty of options if it’s your thing!

I may not have first hand experience with this, but I did compile a short list of top options to consider. The below links are for google maps to make things easy!

10 | Taste Greek Cuisine Through a Cooking Class or Food Tour

If you enjoy cooking and love Greek food, then a cooking class is a great option to consider when deciding what things to do in Mykonos! The one below is highly rated with over 170 reviews and 94% of travelers recommending it!

11 | Take a Day Trip to Tinos

My friend and I spent 2 days in Tinos, but it’s only a 30 to 45 minute ferry ride from Mykonos so you could easily make a day trip. I loved Tinos so much! The cute towns to explore, the magical sunsets, the friendly locals, it was overall a wonderful experience!

Curious about Tinos? I’ve got a Tinos Itinerary: 2 Days of Exploring the Island by Car Guide

This island, at least the time we were there, felt less touristy as a whole. Some of the villages we visited felt almost abandoned. This island is quite large, but whether you drive or book a tour, it’s worth exploring!

Just note that if you decide to drive you’ll need an international driver’s license (learned that on arrival, oops). Also, if you plan to go into any churches, you’ll need proper attire which is mentioned in the details for the Full-Day Trip to Tinos Island.

12 | Go Kayaking Around the Coast

I did not do this on my trip to Mykonos, but I love being on the water and have my own paddle board to explore the best spots in Florida. If you also enjoy being on the water, then a kayak tour would be a great option!

You can work up a sweat and maybe the cool water temperatures would be a welcome treat after the tour!

13 | Try Snorkeling or Diving Tours

Another thing I did not do while in Mykonos, so I’m not sure what undersea treasures Mykonos holds, but if you enjoy underwater exploration, it’s worth adding to your list of things to do in Mykonos!

On a related note, if you’re a diver looking for a bucket list experience, I recommend the bull shark dive in Fiji! It was one of the coolest experiences and overall I gush about the Yasawa Islands!

Tips for Visiting Mykonos

Here are some quick tips for visiting Mykonos, but I go into more detail in my travel guide on 3 days in Mykonos.

Best Time to Visit Mykonos

I try to avoid peak season regardless of the destination, but especially for Mykonos and Santorini, I recommend shoulder season! I went end of September and there were plenty of people around, but it never felt crowded. May and September would be good months for a quieter Mykonos.

If you do want to party, then peak season may be the best time for you! So head there June through August for the crowds and parties!

Quick Note on Transportation

Mykonos is surprisingly easy to explore. Mykonos Town is very walkable so you can enjoy the shops, restaurants and sights in old town, Little Venice and catch the windmills all on foot.

For venturing further, you can rent a car, scooter, or ATV to reach beaches and villages at your own pace. I drove an ATV around and loved it, but I did go end of September so the island wasn’t super busy.

Public buses connect popular spots at a budget-friendly price. Of course, taxis or private transfers are available, especially if you’re traveling with luggage, which is what my friend and I chose for travel to and from the airport.

Where to Stay | Mykonos Town vs Beaches

Choosing where to stay in Mykonos depends on the vibe you want. Both can be great and I stayed in both!

Mykonos Town offers more to do with easy access to shops, restaurants, nightlife, and iconic sights like the windmills and Little Venice. There is way more to do staying in or near Mykonos Town.

For relaxation and beach clubs, staying on a beach is the way to go. I split my stay, with the majority of our 3 days in Mykonos being near town and one night at the beach. The beaches have limited restaurants and things to do, so just keep that in mind when deciding.

Things to Do in Mykonos

I hope this guide was helpful in deciding what things to do in Mykonos! This island has good restaurants, charming towns, beautiful beaches and great day trips to keep your day or days full! When it comes to Santorini vs Mykonos there is one I consider unmissable, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t love both islands!

Mykonos became popular for beach parties and nightlife, but now has charm to go with it! I hope you enjoy your time on Mykonos and any other Greek Islands you get to visit!
